I know that the main complain about proposing in public places is the people around you. Maybe your girlfriend is a very discrete person and she imagine to have a very private and romantic proposal in a private terrace somewhere along your holiday in Italy. But often time private terraces doesn’t have the majesty of a natural landscape like the Sassi of Matera can offer. It is a matter of a compromise but with this specific spot in front of Chiesa di Santa Maria di Idris I can guarantee that everything else will take a back seat. The open view above the wall of stones behind you with the sunset light is one of a kind vision that you will never forget.
Definitely the best time for a photoshoot in Matera is 30/40 minutes before the actual sunset. As you can see in the pictures in this gallery the golden light that came from behind the house on top of the hill is very warm and soft and every pictures will scream beauty. Good light in Matera stay very long until the city lights will start to come on and even when the sunlight start to fade and the blue hour take the place of the golden hour, the shooting can go on adding a magical touch of a fairy tale to the entire photo session.
Moreover that time of the day is ideal to have the less people around you. Usually only the ones that knows this place in advance came there to enjoy a calm breeze and watch the sun fade behind the city profile up above the hill in front of them.
