When it comes to capturing the special moments of a couple’s big day, I always feel a rush of excitement. Being a wedding photographer in Diamante, with its stunning natural settings and wonderful venues where you can enjoy Calabria’s breathtaking summer sunsets, is always an exhilarating experience.
Cirella: The Ruins and the Island
For this wedding, which took place on the brink of summer—on June 18th, 2022—we were blessed with truly excellent weather conditions. Even though the temperature was already quite high, the overall weather was ideal throughout the celebration.
The couple’s portrait session, in particular, was scheduled at a time I strongly recommended for two reasons: first, waiting until sunset would have caused an excessive delay for the guests at Hotel Ducale; second, sunset light isn’t always the best light. In fact, having the sun still relatively high allowed us to reach the famous ruins of Cirella first and capture stunning backlit shots with a magical atmosphere. Later, we made it down to the cliffside north of Cirella Island (a small note: this cliff hosts the remains of a Roman-era villa), where the light was softer but still offered tones and colors that are often hard to catch during golden hour.
Hotel Ducale Cirella – A Wedding Venue
One of the most popular venues along the coast is certainly Hotel Ducale (commonly known as Il Ducale): its gardens are the perfect spot for a sunset toast and a dinner under the stars, caressed by the sea breeze that brings much-welcomed relief.
The entertainment and music for Pasquale and Caterina’s wedding were provided by one of my favorite bands—BeMove, led by the amazing Federica Siciliani, who always manages to engage and move every wedding guest whenever I have the pleasure of working alongside them.
